PHOENIX AZ HEADSHOTS & BRANDING HEADSHOTS PHOENIX AZ

Headshots are an essential part of any entrepreneur's marketing toolkit. They're used on websites, social media, and in business presentations to help you make a good first impression. In recent years, there have been a few trends emerging in the world of headshots. Two of the most popular trends are modern headshots and professional branding portraits.

Modern Headshots

Modern headshots are typically head-and-shoulders portraits that are shot against a white, gray, or black background with professional hi key lighting. These are minimalist headshots - a good choice for people who want a professional and polished look with high key lighting is a style of lighting that uses a lot of light to create a bright, airy, and positive mood. It is often used in beauty portraits because it flatters the subject's features.

In high key lighting, the key light is typically placed high and to the front of the subject, and it is often diffused to create a soft, even light. One or more fill lights are also typically placed high and to the front of the subject, and it is used to fill in any shadows created by the key light. The background is usually neutral, white or light-grey or dark, and it is often kept out of focus to create a sense of depth.

Modern Headshots are characterized by their clean, simple look and their focus on the subject's face meaning they are a good choice for entrepreneurs who want a professional and polished look. They're also a good choice for entrepreneurs who want to use their headshots on websites or social media.

Professional Branding Portraits

Professional branding portraits are a more comprehensive type of headshot. These headshots are shot in natural settings, such as parks, gardens, or cityscapes. Environmental portraits can help to show off a person's personality and style, and they can also help to create a sense of authenticity. They typically include full-body shots, environmental portraits, and lifestyle portraits. They're designed to capture the essence of the entrepreneur's personality and brand. Branding portraits are used to help people create a strong online presence and to make a positive first impression. They can be used on websites, social media, business presentations, and even print advertising and can be referred to as content portraits.

Professional branding portraits are a good choice for entrepreneurs who want to use their headshots in a variety of ways.

Here are some of the benefits of having branding portraits:

  • They help you create a strong online presence.

  • They make you look more professional and credible.

  • They help you stand out from the competition.

  • They can help clients visualize you working- and what you will do for them!

Other things to consider when creating branding portraits:

  • Your brand: What are your core values? What do you want people to know about you? Remember that YOU are your brand! A few specific props that show you in action are also good.

  • Your target audience: Who are you trying to reach with your branding portraits?

  • The location: Choose a location that reflects your brand and that will help you tell your story. Often this is the place you actually do business be it a home office, corporate board room, or on-site with clients.

  • The wardrobe: Wear clothes that make you feel confident and that reflect your brand. Wear what you actual wear when meeting clients!

  • Be yourself: Don't try to be someone you're not. Be authentic and let your personality shine through in your branding portraits.

Other headshot styles I offer at Anjeanette Photography:

COMPOSITE HEADSHOTS:

These headshots are created by combining multiple images of a person. This can be done to create a more dynamic and interesting headshot, or to show off a person's different looks. Composite headshots are a good choice for people who want a unique and eye-catching headshot. It is also perfect for teams and groups in addition to an in person group photo, as it is easier and more eye catching for use in advertising and company social media banners.

BLACK AND WHITE HEADSHOTS:

Black and white headshots have been making a comeback in recent years. They can be a more artistic and timeless and elegant choice than color headshots, and they can also help to focus attention on a person's face. If you have a favorite portrait from our headshot session let me know and I will convert it to rich and striking black and white at no additional cost.

COLORFUL HEADSHOTS:

Colorful headshots are a great way to add personality and style to a headshot. They can be used to reflect a person's interests or passions, or they can simply be used to create a more eye-catching headshot with company or personal brand colors.

Which Type of Headshot is Right for You?

The type of headshot that's right for you will depend on your individual needs and goals. If you're looking for a simple, professional headshot that you can use on your website or social media, then a modern headshot is a good option. If you want a more comprehensive headshot that you can use in a variety of ways, then a professional branding portrait is a good choice.

  • Consider your industry. If you're in a creative industry, such as design or fashion, then a professional branding portrait may be a good choice. If you're in a more traditional industry, such as finance or law, then a modern headshot may be a better option.

  • Consider your target audience. Who are you trying to reach with your headshots? If you're trying to reach a younger audience, then a modern headshot may be a good choice. If you're trying to reach a more mature audience, then a professional branding portrait may be a better option.

The benefit of having professional headshots is they help you instantly make a good first impression, making you look more professional and credible and help you stand out from the competition.

Why you really don't want that AI headshot | Phoenix Headshot Pro Anjeanette Photography

It’s tempting, just send in a few of your favorite bathroom selfies and be done with the awkwardness and venerability of in-person headshot sessions with a photographer. It’s cheap! It’s easy! Send them old selfies and look 20 years younger! The only problem is nothing that is cheap, easy, and promises eternal youth ever really pans out like we want.

Ask yourself, is that what you want clients to be looking for when they need the services you provide? Cheap, easy, and unrealistic?

The growing trend of using artificial intelligence (AI) to create headshot portraits is often touted as being more convenient and affordable than traditional headshot portraits taken by professional photographers. However, there are a number of reasons why you may not want to use AI for your headshot portraits.

1. AI-generated portraits lack realism.

One of the biggest drawbacks of AI-generated portraits is that they often lack realism. Sure it will get better. For now, AI algorithms are trained on a limited dataset of images, they may not be able to capture the nuances of human facial features. As a result, AI-generated portraits can look unnatural or even "uncanny valley" in some cases. AI-generated headshots can be disappointing—either looking nothing like someone’s real face, or suffering from warped elements like crossed eyes, stretched and pinhed lips, or hands. Don’t get me started on the hands!

2. AI-generated portraits lack personality.

Another problem with AI-generated portraits is that they often lack personality. This is because AI algorithms are not able to capture the individual's unique expressions or quirks. As a result, AI-generated portraits can look extremely boring, generic, and lifeless. Maybe that is what you want…but AI portraits are easy to pass by and dismissed by our brains which know something is ‘off’. You definitely do not want someone skimming over your LinkedIn profile or website to think “something is off” or worse simply dismiss you in favor of a competitor’s headshot that stands out. In a sea of faces, a great headshot can help you stand out and be remembered.

Do I feel good about these images? Not really. The thing that unnerved me the most about these photos, warped teeth and cross eyes aside, was the fact that AI had completely edited my features, creating a version of me that I guess you could say was conforming to some sort of weird societal beauty standard.
— VICTORIA CHANDLER

3. AI-generated portraits lack personalized attention.

When you work with a professional photographer, you get personalized attention that is tailored to your individual needs. The photographer will take the time to understand your goals for your headshot portraits and will work with you to create a portrait that accurately reflects your personality and style. In contrast, AI-generated portraits are mass-produced and do not offer the same level of personalization.

And I get it, it’s overwhelming. It is hard to feel confident when stepping in front of a camera. We see all the flaws nobody else sees because while you may absolutely rock your business as a kick-ass boss we don’t always have that objectivity when seeing ourselves, especially for an up-close portrait. The thing is…sometimes, a lot of time, we are just WRONG about how we look. My personalized sessions include several tips from posing to expression to experienced high-end editing that help you look confident, intelligent, and accomplished. Because you ARE.

4. AI-generated portraits are not always affordable.

While some AI-generated portrait services offer free trials, the cost of these services can quickly add up as you struggle to try different variations that you like or look better. In addition, the cost of AI-generated portraits may not be covered by your professional association or able to be used on taxes, as is often the case with traditional headshot portraits taken by a professional photographer.

5. AI-generated portraits are not always secure.

When you work with a professional photographer, your headshot portraits are stored on the photographer's secure server. In contrast, AI-generated portraits may be stored on third-party servers that may not be as secure. This means that there is a greater risk of your headshot portraits being hacked or stolen.

6. AI-generated portraits are not always ethical.

This one is personal to me. It hurts. Trying to put fears and feelings aside, it harms an industry of real people - photographers and their families now and in the future taking away from possible income by stealing from photographers’ past work. Some AI-generated portrait services use facial recognition technology to create their portraits, usually images stolen from databases and other photographers’ portfolios. It’s basically taking bits from other work around the internet and mashing it together with the photos you sent in. This raises ethical concerns about the potential for this technology to be used for surveillance or other harmful purposes.

Why do you need headshots in the first place? I’m guessing to help you attract new clients, and connect with potential clients and colleagues …so that you build trust and credibility and get the job or the promotion or sale. How do you do that authentically with a faked headshot?

There are a number of reasons why you may not want to use AI for your headshot portraits. If you are looking for a portrait that is realistic, personalized, affordable, secure, and ethical, then you should consider working with a professional photographer like myself.

Nowadays, an outdated headshot is particularly noticeable because camera quality is increasing exponentially. Consider it this way–your profile picture taken in 2004 is most likely lower quality than what you could take on your iPhone today. When a user comes to your site, it is obvious by the quality of the photo whether or not your headshot is outdated. This leads customers to one of two thoughts. Either they think that your business lacks the resources to update your headshots and improve your brand, or they think that you are lazy and lack the foresight to consider the importance of your headshot. Either way, it’s a lose-lose situation. Avoid that negative reputation altogether by simply changing your headshot every once and while to reflect new camera quality.

Everyone should get a professional business portraits to show their relevance, and keeping them updated is easy. Your headshot makes you real in the virtual world. Yet some people continue to leave their headshot blank, or they don’t take it seriously when they do upload one. I have seen numerous headshots that actually make me want to avoid the person behind the headshot rather than create a connection with them. The best headshots are created by a professional photographer. So schedule a shoot – it’s worth the investment. Here’s some advice for making your headshot a valuable asset.

Getting an acting gig starts by getting in the door of a casting director’s office. Regardless of how great your acting skills are if you don’t have a headshot to use as your calling card, no one might ever know you exist. Make sure to give your headshot the attention it deserves.

Approachable, energetic, and charismatic smile- a winning combination to make your best first impression. And everything your looking for in an acting or modeling headshot!

Zoe has all of these characteristics and more, her “Anne Hathaway” smile is cool and vibrant, only surpassed by a fantastic laugh and bubbly personality. She is sure to take her dreams to reality with her determination, and I look forward to seeing her light up the world someday!

Zoe and her family approached me for a great headshot as suggested by their agency- and I always say great kids = great portraits. A headshot from Anjeanette Photography gives people an idea of your personality before they meet you, especially important when social media marketing and brand presence influences a casting director or agency’s decision to hire! These portraits are used to quickly decide whom to hire for work in a production or campaign. Talent agents use these photos as a way to quickly decide if they want to work with an actor as a client. Therefore, models & actors of every level require an excellent professional photo to be taken seriously. A pro headshot is a simple first audition!

Your headshot should show casting directors both the intangibles and tangibles of you as an actor: how you look on camera, your essence, your energy, and personality.

WHAT TO WEAR TO AN ACTING HEADSHOT

You should stand out- not your outfit. Keep outfits and clothing simple with neutral tones like classic greys and blacks, or high contrast colours that flatter your complexion. Avoid busy distracting patterns. Freshly pressed, properly fitted, clean clothes of course!

Makeup should be neutral and minimal so that agencies and directors can see YOU.

Remember its a simple photo. Expert lighting of your facial structure is important- your personal fashion style is not (save that for a different meeting!)

When deciding whether or not to smile or not I advise thinking about what roles or campaigns you intend to pursue. Do some research and be ready “in character”. I take a variety of big smiles to neutral and intense looks- but I have to say people are absolutely drawn to a big warm smile! When you book with me your sessions include three edited images so you may choose a variety. However, you can also go ahead and additionally purchase all the images on your finished portrait gallery so that you have lots of different looks on hand!
